Windows Phone Setup

Before setting up Google Sync on your Windows Phone or Windows Mobile device, back up your Contacts and Calendars from your phone on your computer before proceeding.

Windows 8 phones
The built in Google set up will not work. Please follow the instructions below to set up an ActiveSync connection with your Google account. 
  1. On Start, swipe left to the App list, select Settings, and then select Email + accounts
  2. Select Add an account > Outlook. (You may want to select "Advanced Setup" if available at this point) 
  3. Enter your e-mail address and password and select Sign in. Windows Phone will try to set up your e-mail account automatically. If setup completes successfully, skip to step 7. 
  4. If you see the message “Check your information and try again. You may have mistyped your password.”, verify that you entered the correct email address and password. At this stage, you don’t need to specify any values for User name and Domain. Select Sign in. If setup completes successfully, skip to step 7.
  5. You’ll see the message, “We couldn’t find your settings” or "Verify login info". Select Advanced. You'll need to enter the following information:
    1. E-mail address This is your full e-mail access, for example doej@sfusd.edu.
    2. Password This is the password for your e-mail account.
    3. User name This is your full e-mail address, for example doej@sfusd.edu.
    4. Domain Leave blank
    5. Server enter m.google.com.
    6. Select Show all settings and make sure the Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection box is selected. 
  6. Select Sign in.
  7. Select OK if Exchange ActiveSync asks you to enforce policies or set a password. 


Windows 7 and below phones

1. Open the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync application on your device's home screen.
2. Press Set up your device to sync with it.
3. Enter m.google.com as the server address.
4. Ensure that the SSL option is selected.

Sign in to your Google account

5. Press Next.
6. Enter your full Google Account email address in the User name field.
7. Enter your Google Account password in the Password field. If you're a 2-step verification user, please use an application-specific password instead.
8. Leave the Domain field empty. If your device requires you to enter a domain name, enter google.
9. Press Next.
10. Check ContactsCalendar, or Email, depending on which you'd like to sync. (Tasks is not supported and will lead to an error if checked.)
11. Press Finish.

12. Press the Sync softkey on the left to synchronize.
